Masked Transition Effect with timelineMax
If you have not tried Greensock’s timelineMax you are missing a great tweening concept for Flash. You may be familiar with Greensock’s tweenLight or tweenMax which are fantastic tweening engines but timelineMax takes the whole tweening process one step further.
Imagine if you had a movie clip with different assets in it that you could tween each asset independently to create effects not possible without it. Let’s say, for example, you have several images you want to display in a slideshow using cool transition effects. Normally you would either have to use a purchased program or write many lines of AS (action script) code to tween each image and if you are using a masked effect then each mask as well to accomplish your goal. Or you will have to just use the time line to move the images or the mask. If you have done this already then you know what I am talking about. Then once you have reached the end of the images, getting back to the beginning to start the process again leaves a pretty choppy transition effect no matter what you do. If you are using a double mask effect, it’s even worse.
Now imagine if you had a virtual MovieClip or a container where you could place your tweens over the course of time. You could build sequences, stop, reverse or repeat and nest timelines within timelines to get a smooth transition between the images or anything else you are going to tween. You could accomplish from simple to very complex tweening. To learn more go to greensock and checkout all the features and to download timelineMax.
In the above example only 12 lines of code plus one line for each image is needed to achieve the transition effect for a simple slideshow with a fading masked transition effect.
